X-Ray Q&A

What is an X-ray?

An X-ray is an imaging test that can lead to a more accurate diagnosis for many injuries. They’re particularly useful in identifying bone injuries, but they can be used to diagnose some soft tissue injuries. You may need a series of X-rays over time to track an injury’s healing or a treatment’s success.

At Neighborhood Urgent Care, on-site X-rays and urgent care allow you to skip the additional car trip and get all the care you need in one convenient place.

When might I need an X-ray?

Neighborhood Urgent Care performs X-rays for several conditions. You might need an X-ray for:

Diagnosis

When you come into the clinic with pain, swelling, or other symptoms of an injury, your physician can use X-ray imaging to directly view the bones for fractures. They can also detect other issues like infections, arthritis, or objects lodged in wounds. Or, they may rule out conditions with X-rays.

Evaluation

Your practitioner can use regular X-rays to make sure an injury is healing or that a condition is responding well to treatment.

Surgery planning

If you need surgery to treat an injury, your physician uses X-ray imaging to plan an effective healing strategy. Then, they coordinate care with your surgeon to ensure you receive all the care you need to recover safely.

What should I expect during my X-ray?

Depending on the angle of the image your practitioner needs, they may ask you to sit or lie down during the test. Then, they carefully position your body using cushions or bolsters to keep the body part still and comfortable. They move to another room to control a special machine and take the image.

It takes only a moment for your physician to capture an X-ray image, so you won’t be in the room for long. They might take more than one image and may use multiple angles.

What are the benefits of an on-site X-ray?

On-site X-rays offer many benefits for you and your loved ones, including:

  • Cost-effective care
  • Prompt results
  • Reduced travel time
  • Comfortable setting with physicians you already know
  • Comprehensive evaluation and treatment planning
